Welcome To Celtic Academy!

Hello Celtic Academy,

I hope you enjoyed your summer and are ready to return to school for the new and improved sports academy! I am very excited for the program and the opportunities you will experience this year. The objective of the program is to help each student reach his or her highest potential as a student and an athlete.  We hope to instill healthy routines and habits to prolong and enrich your life.

You can find the Celtic Academy located at St. Gerards(grades 4-6), St. Kateri(grades 4-8), St. Patricks(grades4-8) and St. Josephs(grades 9-12).  Students in grades 4-8 will take part in a wide variety of multi-sport activities ranging from:

With each sport we have hired an experienced coach to work with the sports academy teachers to help instill students are learning the fundamentals and appropriate skills relating to that sport. All of our coaches are well recognized in their particular sport and have extensive knowledge. All have worked in the sport at high levels and have a lot of knowledge and expertise to offer to the students.

At the Celtic Academy we believe and are dedicated to the Long Term Athlete Development Model established by Canadian Sport for Life.  You can find their model at: http://canadiansportforlife.ca/learn-about-canadian-sport-life/ltad-stages .  We believe that the multi-sport model is essential to a complete athlete and ensure life long participation in sport.

At St. Josephs Catholic High School the grades 9-12 students take part in the Train to Train, and Train to Compete model of the LTAD program.  Here they have the priveldge of working with our strength and conditioning coach, Daniell Ordyniec.  Danielle ensures that the athletes programs are tailored to their needs for their sport, allowing them to train in the Dan Gorman Fitness Centre.  Our high school athletes DO NOT train in specific sports and we do not provide them with skills or drills in a specific sport.  Rather, we believe in training our athletes to become bigger, stronger and faster as a complete athlete.  Additionally, each student will have classroom sessions during their time in the Celtic Academy that will allow them to earn the following CTS credits:

  • Foundations of Training 1 and 2
  • Training for Core Muscles
  • Olympic Weightlifting
  • Flexibility Training
  • Cardiovascular Training
  • Speed and Agility
  • Leadership Fundamentals
  • Nutrition and Wellness
  • Nutrition for Recreational Activities
  • Injury Management
